Let's start learning about personal journeys!
After a nice summer break, Grade 5 got a great start to our new unit about personal journeys. Here are a few highlights from this week:
English:
Throughout this week students learned new vocabulary words and read about Ibn Battuta and the many adventures he experienced throughout his life. Students took time to look up new words in our class dictionaries and added them to our Word Wall. This week also gave us time to tell stories of our own as everyone added new details around the circle of students. Finally, students wrote down important facts about themselves and gave a speech telling us inside information about themselves.
UoI:
Students delved in more detail into the life of Ibn Battuta and the important moments of his life. In addition to what was learned through our weekly story, students gained more insight by researching online and creating a timeline of his life. This famous world traveler changed in many ways and serves as a good starting point for our unit about new understandings through personal journeys.
