Welcome Back! June 1-5

Welcome back everyone!  We are all excited to be back at school with our friends and sharing our thoughts and ideas.  Masks are on, desks are sanitized, hands are washed, and learning is everywhere.  Thank you to all the students who are trying incredibly hard to keep our classroom and school extra safe and clean.  Keep up the great work!  Here are some highlights from our first week back.

UoI:

We have jumped right into our second unit of the year with a focus on Science and experimentation.  Students are learning that all things are composed of elements and are exploring what and where they occur.  Minds and eyes are open as students search for items with these elements all around them.

Since our unit is themed around experimentation, students have begun research on experiments they can do both at home and at school.

Art:

After reviewing primary colors, we learned about the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian and examined how he effectively used red, blue, and yellow in a grid pattern.  Students created their own version and explored an approach to modern art.

English:

Students refreshed their writing skills with some creative writing prompts and interpretations of music through story.  Nouns, adjectives, and verbs were also reviewed with students challenged to come up with over 100 examples of each.  We will continue to develop our writing and editing skills next week and beyond.
