AIS - Grade 5: September 2019

Welcome back everyone!

What a great start to Term 2! We have been busy with our new unit and exploring different books about personal journeys both in our school library and in the Osaka Public Library. International Children's Festival (ICF) is right around the corner, and 5th grade is hard at work. Here are some highlights from this past few weeks.

Personal Journeys--Our new unit deals with personal journeys. Over the summer break students had to create a slideshow about their summer break activities. During our first few days back, students presented their summer journeys to the class. Students have also started a timeline of important events in their life to help us explore our own personal journey.

Library--Students walked to the Osaka Public Library to find a book for our Unit of Inquiry, a biography for Japanese class, and any information that we could use for ICF. The library staff met with students and explained how to check out books and library policies and procedures.

International Children's Festival (ICF)--Students brainstormed together and decided to delve into Mongolia as our country for ICF. All week students have been working hard to gather facts and information about different aspects of Mongolian culture and customs. Posters, timelines, clothing designs, games, and music have all been selected by students to be displayed this Friday. Grade 5 is working closely with Kindergarten to create some interesting art showcasing costumes and fashion in Mongolia. We will display all of our research and art on Friday so come by and visit!
