Personal Journeys: September 14-25

Students have been continuing their study of personal journeys, expanding vocabulary in both English and Japanese, and team building throughout the past few weeks.

UoI: Students have been tracking the changes in their lives and examining how the differences between then and now.  Personal timelines were created to help track their life's progress visually.

Japanese: Different groups reenact a classic folktale involving a samurai, mother, two daughters, and a narrator.  Everyone had to perform in Japanese making sure to speak clearly and use expressions to better tell the story.

English: Each of four groups were given four vocabulary words and tasked with teaching their classmates the meaning.  Students presented their information in creative methods including slideshows, flashcards, and acting.  Each group assessed the knowledge of their classmates through use of their own specially developed Exit Tickets.

Team Building: Students are taking turns to teach during Morning Meeting a skill or ability to others in the classroom.  So far we have learned how to practice meditation to help control anger or sadness, basics of hockey, and how to use a J Board.  Each student teaches a practical skill and involves students in participation.  There will be more team building activities in the next few weeks so stay tuned.
