AIS - Grade 5: December 2019

We made it to Winter Break! Thank you everyone for all of your hard work, and make sure you take some time to relax because you all deserve it! Here are a few highlights from our last weeks of December.

New Unit

Our new unit is focused on how media uses different techniques to influence perspective. Students created an advertisement for their product and presented it to inform buyers in a matter-of-fact manner of what they were selling. Next they used a persuasive way to sell it by making their posters colorful, creating sales, using a change of volume, and making their sales pitch engaging and fun. Student vendors created ads for Magic Burger, X Phone Z, Zoro Shoes, and Happy Eats.

UNICEF

A Grade 6 student has started a collaboration with UNICEF to help raise funds. A speaker for the organization visited our school and provided a presentation and workshop to educate Grades 5-8 about what they do. We learned about the efforts made to help with disaster relief, refugee aid, education, medical aid, and much more. After our studies with the United Nations, students were particularly interested in this organization which focuses on helping children around the world.

Crafts

Students took some time to embrace their creative side by making bookmarks for reading over the break. They learned how to cut and weave construction paper with some cool results. We also made some interesting cork designs that can be used as a keychain. It was a nice and relaxing way to end the year.

Talent Show

Finally, students participated in the Abroad Talent Show. Such a great display of talent from Grade 5! Hyeri sang a song, Chinmay and Ahmet performed a magic show, Hilal sang, and Angelique and Sarah performed a dance. Yua from Grade 2 was the winner of the individual performance while Angelique and Sarah were the winners for the group category. Great job to all the Risk-Takers!
