October 28 - November 1: Finding Out and Digging Deeper

Finding Out and Digging Deeper

This week we continued our inquiry into different societies and the values placed on the people found within.  Students reflected on how societies in the past differ or remain similar to societies in the modern day.

Analyzing medieval society
Students focused their inquiry this week on European Medieval Society focusing on the feudal system and the different people making up this system such as king, clergy, skilled workers/tradesmen, knights/vassals, peasants, and lords/nobles.  There was a focus on the values placed on society and how some people are given high or low value.  Students were able to make the connection between a differing value of people in society today.  Some wonderful posters and instructional aids were made and enjoyed throughout this week and the next.

Life Drawing/Painting
Due the wonderful weather we decided to take practice our art skills outside by the river.  Students applied some new art techniques (cross hatching and using a pencil to measure angles) to life drawing.  The river and other students provided a lot of opportunities for students to hone their artistic skills.  There was an outpouring of creativity and imagination at work!
