Week 1: April 8-12

We have had a busy but engaging week back at school!  Our room has finally been put into order with new flexible seating so students can feel more at ease in the classroom yet still get work done.  We have been writing some creative stories and begun our Unit of Inquiry into physical and mental health.  Here are some of the things we have been studying this week:

English
We gathered around a circle and took turns to tell a story.  As the story traveled around the circle, many twists and turns caused the story to evolve in fun but unexpected ways.  Next, students wrote their own story based on a prompt from our principal, Mr. Ulu.  Kids were able to let their imaginations take control.

In conjunction with 4th grade, we worked together to put the library in order so that all students can have easy access to books and materials.

UoI
Our new unit is Science based and will focus on different aspects of physical and mental health and how our choices and environment can affect us.  This week we have been creating a play to highlight the differences between the two.  Discussion and research about the different systems of the human body has begun.

I'm looking forward to all the new and exciting things we will be studying this term!
